SCROLL DOWN

Artist. Anthropologist. Educator.

Strider Patton is a contemporary artist based in San Francisco, California. Best known for his abstract murals, sculptures, and installations, Strider delicately weaves together feelings and emotions through his visual language. His work deals with themes of connection and separation, organization, energy, movement, and void space. Heavily informed by the natural world, culture and his meditative search inward, Strider’s dialogue between color, shape, form and composition is meant to trigger experience.

Strider received his masters degree from California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in cultural anthropology. A third generation self-taught artist, Strider grew up in art studios, learning to use his hands, observing his surroundings and how to communicate ideas visually. His family art legacy and DIY approach to art, mixed with his academic training in cultural anthropology, allows him to bring a unique multidisciplinary approach to his projects. Strider has worked with world renowned companies in the industries of technology, education, hospitality, construction, finance, local government and health care.

Philosophy

What we surround ourselves with matters. With everything I make I hope to create a trigger for experience - a thought, feeling, or emotion. I believe that if we surround and expose ourselves to certain experiences we can transform ourselves.

“My work, at its core, is made to start conversation while being mindful of the human condition, and to tackle humanity's biggest questions: who are we, why are we here, and where are we going? I want my work to gently remind us of our shared humanity and that we are all one.”

Whether it's painting a tech company’s 3-floor open stairwell lobby at the top of a high rise, directing a 1,750sqft youth mural project with 400 kids in Iowa, exhibiting works in international galleries, collaborating with a neon light artist to have a light-laced glowing mural, painting a rural school in Cambodia with 80 local kids, or realizing a 4-floor public art installation in Soho London, Strider’s diverse range of visual art projects are united by his belief that art is the expression of humanity.

Art

I am a full time artist, based in San Francisco, CA. I paint indoors and outdoors, on canvas and on concrete, for beautifying public spaces and for private commissions. Buildings, barns, offices, restaurants, schools or private residences I love painting unique murals in any setting.

I make fine art with painting and sculpture. My painting is on canvases and found materials. My sculpture is delicate painted wood assemblages.

Anthropology

I earned a master's degree in Anthropology and Social Change from California Institute of Integral Studies. There I focused my work the intersections of street art, public space, culture, community representation, history, urban politics, democracy, and artistic social pedagogy. It was during my schooling that I unpacked the true meaning of creating art for myself. Since my graduation I have been diving into how to weave the human condition, history, and culture into my art.

Education

I create unique spaces of artistic education and collaborative art making. I love working with kids or adults, schools or business groups, social groups or communities of any size.

I teach a variety of collective creativity experiences in the form of mural making. I've worked with youth groups, business teams, and communities. These experiences require no prerequisite from the group, I facilitate it all and get everyone working together and having fun to make something beautiful and that tells a story.

I also give talks about the importance of art, culture, creativity, arts and activism, and the history of street art.
